The Top Twenty Best Hit Songs of 2013 Part 2 (10-1)

Image
10. One Direction Ah One Direction, the biggest boy band of the 2010s, that most teenage girls had a phase for at some point and that are despised by most others. And while I am not a teenage girl and have never had a full on One Direction phase, I really enjoy most of the songs I have heard from them and like all of their Year End hits (Little Things and Live While We're Young still suck though). They had two hits in 2013,  and I love both so I'm gonna discuss them both separately.   10a. Best Song Ever - One Direction First we have Best Song Ever, the lead single from their album Midnight Memories, and the higher peaking of these two songs, although Story Of My Life became a bigger hit overall, being even bigger in 2014 than in 2013. This song is similar to Shut Up And Dance by Walk The Moon a song I love even if it has hardly any replay value for me. But if I'm being honest, I like Best Song Ever even more than that song, because it does have replay value. It's just ...

The Top Twenty Best Hit Songs of 2013 Part 1 (20-11)

20. Catch My Breath - Kelly Clarkson Most of Kelly Clarkson's 2010s hits are far from her best in my opinion, songs like Stronger and Heartbeat Song. However, she did have one hit in 2013 that I would put among her best. Catch My Breath has a fantastic piano line, guitar riff, and synths creating a fantastic groove. And Kelly sings her ass off putting her all into this performance to sell it out the roof. The lyrics are simple, just about how she's not gonna let the critics and haters get her down, but what makes this work so well is again the production and her performance. Fantastic song  19. Gone, Gone, Gone - Phillip Phillips It feels like this song has been overshadowed in cultural memory by this guy's other, bigger, hit Home, and that's a shame in my opinion, because, as much as I still do really like Home, it got an Honorable Mention on my 2012 best list for a reason, I've always preferred this song. I love Phillips's warm voice, the fantastic acoustic gu...

The Top Ten Worst Hit Songs of 2013

Image
Hey everyone, Drake known online as Urtar Reviews here, and out of all the Year End lists I have listened through so far, 2013 is probably my favorite. The year had hardly any music I hated and so much music I adore, several all time classics for me, and just a shit ton of great music. While there were a few songs I hated this year, that's what we're looking at today, there were so few that there's a couple of songs on this list that I would only put in the Bad Tier! But anyway, my rules are as usual that the song has to either debut on the 2013 Jan-Dec Year End Hot 100 or make the Billboard Year End for 2013 and not make any Jan-Dec Year End. Also as usual this is all my opinion and you are free to disagree. So without further ado let's get into my top 10 worst hit songs of 2013! 10. I Want Crazy - Hunter Hayes I honestly don't even hate this song that much it's like a decent 3/10, it made the list by default. I mean the instrumental is actually kind of decent ...

2021 Best List Honorable Mentions

Image
Hey everyone, Drake known online as Urtar Reviews here, and I said in my best list part 2 that I would be doing a seperate list for the Honorable Mentions, and here that is! HM. Tombstone - Rod Wave It's no Street Runner, which would be top 2 on the list if it were eligible but I still like this one a lot.  HM. Things A Man Oughta Know - Lainey Wilson Just a really well written country song.  HM. Single Saturday Night - Cole Swindell Would this my pick for Cole Swindell's first Year End hit when he had You Should Be Here in 2016 which was so close to making that Year End list and is a phenomenal ballad about missing your father, but I still like this a lot and I have no idea why.  HM. Hell Of A View - Eric Church Eric Church HM. Cry Baby - Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby This is my favorite Megan Thee Stallion hit of the year. That statement probably just caused a good amount of you to stop reading my lists. I do not care, I still love this song. If you're hating on th...

10. Starting Over - Chris Stapleton I am not super familiar with Chris Stapleton but I really like most of what I've heard from him, and this is my favorite song I have heard from him (unless you count his feature on Say Something by Justin Timberlake). It's a song about him and his wife starting over at a better place than they were before. Sure there's a chance it ends up worse on them, but they're willing to take the risk. But the best part of this song is how it sounds. The instrumental is serene, beautiful and delicate in the best way and it sounds amazing. And Chris's voice glides over it perfectly selling the emotions very very well. And he's a great singer as usual. Great song.  9. My Ex's Best Friend - Machine Gun Kelly, Blackbear If you told me back in 2019 that I would be putting this guy on a best list, I would have said "Yeah, and I'm Donald Trump" but here we are. MGK made a really good album last year in Tickets To My Downfall an...

The Top Twenty Best Hit Songs of 2021 - Part 1 (20-11)

Image
Hey guys, Drake known online as Urtar Reviews here, and it's time for the first part of my top 20 best hits of 2021! As I said in my worst list, 2021 was an amazing year for pop music. There were so many songs I adored that I'm doing a top 20 best list again, expect this to be a thing I do a fair amount when there's stacked years, but anyway. My rules are the same as normal so go read one of my non 2021 top 10 lists for them if you're new here. Also as always this is just my opinion, you are welcome to your own because music is subjective. So without further ado, let's get into the Top 20 Best Hit Songs of 2021! 20. Butter - BTS This was a grower. The first several listens I thought it was mid, but very recently I started to enjoy this a lot. Butter is just a very fun pop song. It's shallow as shit, but as you know I love shallow pop songs with a fantastic hook, and the lyrics sound fucking badass and this song has so many hooks stitched in that it's easy to...
