The Top Ten: 

To start off our top 10, OMG by Usher and Will.i.am returns to #1. Next we have a new song debuting in the top 10, California Gurls by Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg at #2. Airplanes by B.o.B. and Hayley Williams gains to #3, pushing back his other single with Bruno Mars, Nothin' On You to #4. Break Your Heart by Taio Cruz and Ludacris loses to #5. Not Afraid drops to #6 off its debut at #1. Your Love Is My Drug by Kesha gains to #7. Alejandro by Lady Gaga rises to #8. Rude Boy by Rihanna drops to #9, and finally Hey, Soul Sister by Train loses to #10. 


Significant Gains, Losses, Returns and Dropouts:

To start off our losses, My First Kiss by 3OH!3 and Kesha drops to 21 off its debut. Lose My Mind by Young Jeezy and Plies falls to 44. Solo by Iyaz drops to 53, GOOD, Not Myself Tonight by Christina Augilera falls to 57. Everything To Me by Monica loses to 69. Say Something by Timbaland and Drake drops to 74. Highway 20 Ride by Zac Brown Band loses to 80. Backwoods by Justin Moore drops to 84. I'm Awesome by Spose loses to 95. Today Was A Fairytale by Taylor Swift drops to 96. And finally, Gypsy by Shakira drops to 97. 


For dropouts, the major ones are Sexy Bitch by David Guetta and Akon, Hillbilly Bone by Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins, Temporary Home by Carrie Underwood, and When I Look At You by Miley Cyrus. 


For returns, we only had one, Fistful Of Tears by Maxwell at 99. 


To start off our gains, Find Your Love by Drake gains off its debut to 20. Rock That Body by The Black Eyed Peas climbs to 24. Un-thinkable (I'm Ready) by Alicia Keys rises to 35. Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner climbs to 54. Finally, Undo It by Carrie Underwood rises off its return to 73. 


2. California Gurls - Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg

I gave this song an Honorable Mention on my 2010 best list and I stand by it, this is just a really fun, catchy banger of a pop song. Nothing more to say. 


56. Pyramid - Charice, Iyaz

This reminds me of Skyscraper by Demi Lovato, but more upbeat. And just like that song this is incredible. Charice's vocals are incredibly beautiful and Iyaz does good too, and they have real chemistry. The lyrics are about how their love is unbreakable and they sell it very well. I loved this and would recommend it. 


82. I'm Single - Lil Wayne

This Lil Wayne song sure does exist, doesn't it. 


89. I Like It - Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull

I get why some people hate this because of the lyrics, but ignore them and this is a really fun club banger, that also has a fantastic Pitbull verse. I guess you could say I like i... dies


98. Somebody To Love - Justin Bieber, Usher

Like most very early Justin Bieber, I actually don't mind this, in fact I actually kinda like this. Bieber had charisma in his early career and he actually sounds pretty good over this nice production. But Usher just steals the show Usher'ing over it. I enjoyed this. 


So that was this week! Worst Of The Week is going to I'm Single by Lil Wayne by default, and instead of giving a Dishonorable Mention I'm gonna give a tie for Honorable Mention. Best Of The Week is Pyramid by Charice and Iyas and a tie for Honorable Mention between California Gurls by Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg and I Like It by Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull.

My Top 15 Favorite Hit Songs of 2003

  15. Harder To Breathe - Maroon 5  The first hit Maroon 5 ever had. And it sticks out to me as one of their best. Adam Levine sells how angry he is so goddamn well. Especially with how he literally sounds like he is running out of breath during the chorus. And the guitar and drum lines compliment him very well. Such a fantastic opener to Songs About Jane as well. Opens that album up with a bang. But also a killer song in itis own right.  14. It's Five O'clock Somewhere - Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffet  Despite the fact that I am not that much of a beach person despite being a Californian, I have a big soft spot for a lot of beach music. And this is one such song. Alan Jackson's warm deep voice fits the beach sound so well. And that guitar line is just so damn comforting. Jimmy Buffet's part is kinda pointless imo, but it's still enjoyable. Like if there is a nitpick I have with this song it's that he is all wondering what would Jimmy Buffet do in a moment like this...

My Top 20 Favorite Hit Songs of 2023 Part 2 (10-1)

  10. Snooze - SZA I think recently SZA finally clicked for me. I haven't tested that yet by going back to her Ctrl era hits since my 2017 best list. Maybe it's just that I like her hits this year more than them, or maybe lately I've been busier and tired more often and more in the mood for downbeat R&B like this, but Kill Bill was one of the last cuts from the list, and Low would have been even higher if it was eligible. This song just did a good job calming me down through this stressful year. SZA's voice just sounds so comforting and smooth, the pitch shifting is fantastic and the beat is just upbeat enough to be catchy and for the song to have rhythm while also laid back enough to be calming. Before I listened to Low as a recommendation from my friends I considered this my favorite SZA song I'd heard, and between the songs I've heard it I actually want to listen to SOS at some point which I never thought I'd say. 9.
