The Top Ten Worst Hit Songs of 2013

Hey everyone, Drake known online as Urtar Reviews here, and out of all the Year End lists I have listened through so far, 2013 is probably my favorite. The year had hardly any music I hated and so much music I adore, several all time classics for me, and just a shit ton of great music. While there were a few songs I hated this year, that's what we're looking at today, there were so few that there's a couple of songs on this list that I would only put in the Bad Tier! But anyway, my rules are as usual that the song has to either debut on the 2013 Jan-Dec Year End Hot 100 or make the Billboard Year End for 2013 and not make any Jan-Dec Year End. Also as usual this is all my opinion and you are free to disagree. So without further ado let's get into my top 10 worst hit songs of 2013!

10. I Want Crazy - Hunter Hayes

I honestly don't even hate this song that much it's like a decent 3/10, it made the list by default. I mean the instrumental is actually kind of decent and Hunter Hayes sounds better than he did on Wanted for sure, even if he still kind of annoys me. But something about this song irritates me. It's a song about a long distance relationship sort of like Hey There Delilah. Now I normally defend these songs, I mean I still love Hey There Delilah and I put Telepatia by Kali Uchis on my 2021 best list. However, Hunter Hayes talks about he doesn't want easy and crazy and that if they aren't crazy together than there's no point in them loving each other. Is it just me or is this a bit creepy that he wants their relationship to be crazy and mentions things like her being all he thinks about? But yeah aside from that issue which is why this made the list this isn't even terrible and in a weaker year would have probably only been a Dishonorable Mention.

9. Harlem Shake - Bauuer

Another song I don't even hate but is still pretty bad. I mean, this is just a bunch of annoying random sound effects stitched together, calling this a song is stretching the definition of a song, and yeah it's annoying that it repeats over and over again, but like hating on this song in 2022 feels kinda pointless since the meme is dead and you never have to hear this song on the radio. I was going to leave it off but then I realized I needed to fill spots on this list and so this ended up making it.

8. Scream And Shout - Will.i.am, Britney Spears

The Black Eyed Peas and their members have grown on me and I've always been a Britney Spears defender but this is still pretty bad. The really weak and annoying production, the grating as fuck chipmunk voices and the incredibly robotic autotune on Britney's voice that removes all her personality and just makes her really annoying. This is just a very unfun club song. Next!

7. Beauty And A Beat - Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj

I mentioned this song when I tied Boyfriend and As Long As You Love Me the other two big singles from the same album as this song on my 2012 worst list. How this one is even worse than both of them. Justin Bieber is still facing the problems he had on the rest of the singles from this album, trying to be charismatic when he just wasn't, and having terrible production. The beat is just incredibly stiff and clunky and neither Justin or Nicki ride it well at all. Oh and Nicki's verse is pretty bad too and feels very phoned in. So yeah, worst hit from Believe and a song that has aged terribly.

6. Berzerk - Eminem

Apparently hating this song is a hot take, as I've seen this song on several best of 2013 lists, but I have always hated this one. The awful, overmixed production that is incredibly annoying and has aged like shit, Eminem's flows are so fucking irritating and he sounds so fucking proud of himself while spewing out lyrics that feel like him spitting out whatever random shit he could to fill up space rather than having a topic and sticking to it. Terrible song!

5. We Can't Stop - Miley Cyrus

I like Miley Cyrus but yeah this is terrible. This is a very unpleasant club song that makes going to a party look like the last thing I want to do. Now darker club songs can absolutely work, like Take It Off by Kesha, but this song doesn't use that to it's advantage. This comes across as Miley just refusing to stop partying and yet she isn't even having fun with it but she can't stop. And that's just an unpleasant way of having your party song come across as. Plus the production is terrible, way too stiff and clunky and Miley sounds awful.

4. Love More - Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj

This is a song about Chris Brown admitting that this relationship isn't working but if they fuck more maybe it will, with a terrible limp beat and weak vocals, and a phoned in Nicki Minaj guest verse. That's all I need to say. Next!

3. Come And Get It - Selena Gomez

I will defend Selena Gomez a lot more than most critics but oh my god is this awful, and easily the worst song I have heard from her. Honestly I don't hate the lyrics nd the vocals are decent. The only issue with this song is the production. The production is god awful and makes this song completely unlistenable despite again the vocals being decent and the lyrics being fine. With better production this could have worked but oh my god is this a disaster!

2. Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke, T.I., Pharrell Williams

Ah yes the ever hated Blurred Lines, which was absolutely everywhere back in 2013 and even early 2014 and is now looked down upon with regret and embrassment that we ever let this song become massive. And I hate it for similar reasons to it's reputation, it's incredibly douchy and the artists are fooling the women into getting into bed with them by calling them good girls and shit. Also, I fucking hate this beat, it's really annoying, and repetitive, and I really hate Robin Thicke as a singer. Also both Pharrell and T.I. deliver weak performances. Just a very annoying, douchy song that deserves all the hate it gets if you ask me. So what beat it? Well, first, a few Dishonorable Mentions.

DM. Runnin' Outta Moonlight - Randy Houser

This guy reminds me of Blake Shelton and if you know me, you know that that's a not good thing.

DM. UOENO - Rocko, Rick Ross, Future

Hot take, outside of the rape line this is actually pretty good, I like the beat and Future's hook is great, but the rape line is awful so it gets a mention.

DM. Try - P!nk

I like P!nk but generic empowerment anthems are really not her strong suit and this is no different.

DM. Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais remix) - Lana Del Ray

I dislike both versions of this song about equally but for different reasons. The original is boring as tar, and the remix just has terrible production.

DM. Cups (When I'm Gone) - Anna Kendrick

This is just annoying.

1. Sure Be Cool If You Did - Blake Shelton

If you know me you know that I really don't like Blake Shelton. I've heard like ten songs from the guy and only two of them aren't at least bad. Just something about the guy makes me want to punch him in the face. And this is my least favorite song I've heard from him. Sure Be Cool If You Did takes his incredibly punchable personality and stretches it to a tee making this song just irritate me so much. Also, I just hate his voice and the instrumental is terrible. This is a song about how Blake meets this girl and falls in love with her, and starts creeping on her while telling her that he isn't forcing her to do anything while doing exactly that by complimenting her. And there's just this subtext that Blake is being a massive creep that bothers me so much. And again Blake Shelton is being such a punchable personality that I just want to smack him in the face every time I hear this song. Sure Be Cool If You Did by Blake Shelton. The Worst Hit Song of 2013!
