Hi everyone, Drake known online as Urtar Reviews here, and man it's been a while. I decided to bring back a series I started back on Rate Your Music when I actually used that site, and continued for a while on this blog. But the last post I made was in late 2022. It was similar to Mark from Spectrum Pulse's Billboard Breakdown series, but for Hot 100 weeks from the past, and I decided to start with 2010, which I had yet to even finish. But anyway, we are continuing 2010's Throwback Breakdown with September 18, 2010. On to our top 10!: The Top 10: We have a new #1 this week with Teenage Dream by Katy Perry overtaking Love The Way You Lie by Eminem and Rihanna down to #2. Good. Dynamite by Taio Cruz holds steady at #3. Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars rises two spots up to #4, pushing I Like It by Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull and DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love by Usher and Pitbull to #5 and #6 respectively. Mine by Taylor Swift rises two spots to #7. Take It Off by Kesha ri...

My Top 15 Favorite Hit Songs of 2003

  15. Harder To Breathe - Maroon 5  The first hit Maroon 5 ever had. And it sticks out to me as one of their best. Adam Levine sells how angry he is so goddamn well. Especially with how he literally sounds like he is running out of breath during the chorus. And the guitar and drum lines compliment him very well. Such a fantastic opener to Songs About Jane as well. Opens that album up with a bang. But also a killer song in itis own right.  14. It's Five O'clock Somewhere - Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffet  Despite the fact that I am not that much of a beach person despite being a Californian, I have a big soft spot for a lot of beach music. And this is one such song. Alan Jackson's warm deep voice fits the beach sound so well. And that guitar line is just so damn comforting. Jimmy Buffet's part is kinda pointless imo, but it's still enjoyable. Like if there is a nitpick I have with this song it's that he is all wondering what would Jimmy Buffet do in a moment like this...

My Top 10 Least Favorite Hit Songs of 2003

Hey everyone, been a while, but Drake, known online as Urtar Reviews here and today I am doing another worst list for 2003! My birth year! So how good an overall year for pop music do I think 2003 was? I think it might be my least favorite year of the 2000s decade for pop music. Not to say it's a terrible year, in fact there's a fair amount of songs I adore as we'll see on the best list. But the bad stuff really drags it down. Let's get into it! Before I listened to this list, I did not realize that Natasha Bedingfield's brother had hits. Years before her first song hit the Hot 100. I was totally fine not knowing that because... 10. If You're Not The One - Daniel Bedingfield Snore. Snore. I am someone who has a soft spot for late 90s and early 2000's ballads like this. And this still is so goddamn boring to me. Daniel Bedingfield is such a boring singer that just has such little personality. And the instrumentation is also boring. And the lyrics are kinda ...

My Top 20 Favorite Hit Songs of 1999 part 2 10-1

  10. Slide - The Goo Goo Dolls I've recently realized how many childhood classics the Goo Goo Dolls have that I didn't know by name. Iris, Slide, Broadway, Name, Here Is Gone and more. I think my parents played this band a lot when I was young. Either that or I heard them a lot in public, or someone who I spent a lot of time with did. But anyway, once again a song I have a lot of nostalgia for. That guitar line is just absolutely killer, John Rzeznik just absolutely kills it on the vocals. This song is also often misinterpreted because of how upbeat it is, it's about a couple wondering what they should do because the woman is pregnant and they don't know whether they should let it get born and have to deal with supporting a child financially, or whether they abort it, and make people around them think they are killers. And her mom disown her for killing her baby Which is a topic that has certainly taken on a new light in 2024. Despite all this, it is somehow the weakes...

My Top 20 Favorite Hit Songs of 1999 part 1 20-11

Hey everyone, Drake known online as Urtar Reviews here. I know I haven't posted in months, I have just not had the motivation to do anything here lately, until now of course. Anyway, I'm gonna be stepping back in time even further with a look at the end of the 90s, and the first Billboard chart year where the Hot 100 was considered an all-genre chart, and that airplay-only singles were allowed to chart. Because of this, even though for the other 90s years I am planning on allowing any song that made the top 20 of the Billboard Pop Radio for the lists to make up for the fact that they didn't allow airplay-only singles to chart, I will be sticking only to the Billboard Year End list for 1999 for this list. And any song that made the top 20 of the airplay chart in 1998 will not be eligible for 1999. Now, I was going to do a worst list for this year, but, this year gave me so few songs I dislike, and most of the ones I do I have basically nothing to say about, so I will not b...
