Throwback Breakdown, April 24, 2010

Hey everyone, Drake, known online as Urtar Reviews here and this is my series I have done for a little while on RYM but am now moving here, Throwback Breakdown! This series is similar to the series Billboard Breakdown, run by Mark from Spectrum Pulse, but it discusses older charts rather than the current charts. As the first season I have been doing the 2010 chart year. Anyway, this is the next episode of Throwback Breakdown!

Reviews Of New Arrivals

20. You And Your Heart - Jack Johnson\

I haven't thought about this guy in years. My parents owned one of his CD's and played it around the house when I was young sometimes and although I can't remember the music itself very well, I remember hearing it.

So how is this song?

It sounds like a Zac Brown Band beach song like Toes and it's also worse than most Zac Brown Band songs in that vein, in that this is just kinda mid. The production and instrumental is fine, if pretty standard for beach music. The lyrics just kinda exist, and so does Jack's voice. This is just a fine, standard beach song. not much else to say.

28. Winner - Jamie Foxx, Justin Timberlake, T. I.

This is just a banger, with a great hook from Justin, a fantastic beat from Timbaland that's far better than anything else he put out this year, and good verses from both rappers. And the lyrics are good too if simple. It's a feel good anthem about winning and they do it well. Great stuff!

67. Don't Let Me Fall - B.o.B.

Ah the oft forgot underperforming 2nd single from B.o.B.s debut album and holy shit this is better than all three of his big singles from 2010, and I love them! This is a song about how much him achieving success after all these years means to him and how he really doesn't want it to go away, and given how big a year B.o.B. had in 2010 and how his career has completely underperformed ever since, aside from Price Tag and So Good of course, this just really hits hard and combine that with the incredible production and the incredibly passionate and beautiful verses from B.o.B and you have something special! Phenomenal song! Highly recommend you all listen to this!

84. This Afternoon - Nickelback

Like most Nickelback songs this is terrible. The instrumentation is weaker than it thinks it is, Chad Kroeger's voice is awful, and  the lyrics are uninteresting party cliches. Bad stuff.

87. Kissin U - Miranda Cosgrove

So I only know Miranda Cosgrove from voice acting in the Despicable Me movies because I never watched ICarly as a kid. Anyway, this is a solid pop song that sounds like a Kelly Clarkson song from like 2005. Solid guitars, solid vocals, decent hook. Just a solid pop song.

88. Un-thinkable (I'm Ready) - Alicia Keys

Gave this an Honorable Mention on my best list and I stand by it. Beautiful song. The glittery prodution, Alicia's serene vocals and the well written lyrics. Great stuff.

97. Give Me A Sign - Breaking Benjamin

This is just a pretty bad rock song. Bad vocals, mediocre lyrics and instrumental. That's all I have to say.

99. All I Ever Wanted - Kelly Clarkson

The title track from her 2009 album and this is pretty bad. The guitar is weak, the lyrics aren't good and Kelly sounds very bad espicially on the hook! Definitely one of the worst Kelly Clarkson songs I've heard. Not good.

So yeah that was this week. Worst of the week goes to This Afternoon by Nickelback and Dishonorable Mention goes to All I Ever Wanted by Kelly Clarkson. Best Of The Week goes to Don't Let Me Fall by B.o.B. without a contest and Honorable Mention goes to Winner by Jamie Foxx, Justin Timberlake and T. I.

Thanks for reading! Urtar Reviews signing out.
